Starting today, July 1st, 2025, select water customers in Nowata will receive the following letter from our Water Plant regarding a required water sample.

As required by state and federal regulations the City of Nowata is tasked with sampling for Lead and Copper in our city’s distribution system. These samples must be taken from residence within the City of Nowata and this residence was approved as a sample site by DEQ. We are asking you to take samples on the morning of July 15 th, 2025. Accurate results depend on your attention. You are a valuable part of our sampling team, and we are relying on you to collect your sample with care and accuracy. Sampling Instructions:
- Prior to the time a sample is collected, there must be no less than SIX (6) hours when there will be no usage of water within the residence.
- Turn off ice maker at night if sample is to be collected first thing in the morning or before leaving for work if sample is to be collected upon return from work.
- Collect the sample BEFORE using any water, this includes toilet flushing, showering, etc. This should be done first thing in the morning.
- Collect the sample from the kitchen faucet using the cold water tap ONLY.
- Place the sample bottle with the lid removed under the faucet BEFORE turning the water on.
- Gently open the cold water tap and fill the sample bottle to the TOP, taking care not to overfill.
- Completely fill out sample bottle label. (date, time, etc.)
- Samples must be analyzed as soon as possible, so please do not forget to put them out for pick up on your front porch.
