About Mayor Gibson
Elected in 2023, Mayor Garry Gibson became the City of Nowata's first African-American mayor. Per the government structure of the City of Nowata, Mayor Gibson was elected as Ward 2 City Commissioner and then selected by his four fellow commissioners to serve as mayor. The day-to-day operations of the city are ran by the City Manager.
With decades of experience in the community, Mayor Gibson has focused his attention on improving roads, strengthening the Nowata economy, and helping lead the creation and construction of the new city water tower.
