City of Nowata is Hiring for Two Abatement Employees

NOWATA, OKLAHOMA

The City of Nowata is seeking two (2) dependable and motivated individuals to serve as Abatement Employees within the Code Enforcement Department.

This position assists the City with nuisance abatement and property maintenance activities to ensure compliance with city ordinances and to help maintain a safe and clean community.

An Abatement Employee performs mowing, weed-eating, tree trimming, debris removal, and assists with property cleanups and structure tear-downs when necessary.

This position works under the direct supervision of the Code Enforcement Officer.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities for Abatement Employees with the City of Nowata:

  • Perform mowing and vegetation control on properties requiring city abatement.
  • Operate lawn mowers, weed-eaters, chainsaws, and other landscaping equipment safely and effectively.
  • Trim trees, shrubs, and overgrown vegetation as directed.
  • Remove trash, debris, and nuisance materials from residential and commercial properties.
  • Assist with demolition and tear-down operations of unsafe or condemned structures.
  • Load, haul, and properly dispose of abatement debris and materials.
  • Maintain and clean equipment, tools, and vehicles used in daily operations.
  • Follow all city policies and safety procedures.
  • Report hazardous conditions, unsafe structures, or code violations encountered during field work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Code Enforcement Officer./li>

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Ability to operate lawn maintenance and light demolition equipment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in various weather conditions.
  • Prior experience in landscaping, maintenance, construction, or related work is preferred but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to safely operate landscaping and tree-trimming equipment.
  • Ability to follow directions and work under supervision.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices for outdoor labor.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds or more.
  • Ability to work outdoors in heat, cold, and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to operate power tools and machinery safely.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily outdoors on residential and commercial properties throughout the City of Nowata. The position may involve exposure to noise, dust, debris, and varying weather conditions.
