Police Statement on Rising Complaints Regarding Grass Clippings in Local Roadways

N Badge Only@2x

NOWATA, OKLAHOMA

My department has received many complaints about individuals leaving grass clippings in the streets and roadways after mowing. This makes it very dangerous for motorcycle riders. It also washes down the streets, plugs drainage systems, and is unsightly.

I want to remind Nowata citizens that a city ordinance addresses this issue.

Section 8-116 Unlawful To Deposit Rubbish
It is unlawful for any person to throw, place or deposit any rubbish, trash, slop, garbage, filthy substances, grass, weeds, trees, brush or any other refuse or waste matter in any street, avenue, alley or in any ditch or watercourse, or upon the premises of another, or upon any public ground in this City.

A violation of this ordinance could result in a citation and/or a fine.

Sincerely,
Chief Mike McELhaney
