How to Obtain a Building Permit in the City of Nowata

Step One: Register Your Contractor
Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, Roofing, and Concrete Contractors must register with the City of Nowata at Nowata City Hall.
Hours of Operation: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Weekdays
Driving Directions to Nowata City Hall
Cost: $40.00 a year, expires when state issued contractors cards expire.
What You Need to Bring: We'll need a copy of State card, Valid Photo ID, Business card if they have one, and General Liability insurance.
Step Two: Obtain a Building Permit

All building permit applications must be submitted to Nowata City Hall.
- What We'll Need With Your Application: A completed building application and site plan.
- Estimated Time for Processing - Residential Applications: 2-5 business days.
- Estimated Time for Processing - Commercial Applications: 5-10 business days.
All building permit applications must be submitted to the Community Development department at Nowata City Hall.
Zoning & Licensing Fees:
- Certificate of Occupancy without a Building Permit - $20.00
- Zoning Map Amendment - $100.00
- Variance Request - $50.00
- OMMA Certificate of Zoning Compliance - $20.00
- Business License - $40.00 Annual Fee
- Alcohol - $50.00 Annual Fee
Commercial Building Permit Fees (Final Inspection Fees Not Included):
- New Construction - 25 cents per sq. ft., minimum $130 fee
- Remodel - 20 cents per sq. ft., minimum $130 fee
- Upfront Plan Review - Review fee of $250 applied to the total cost of the building permit
- Accessory Building - 4 cents per sq. ft. with minimum $20 fee
Residential Building Permit Fees (Final Inspection Fees Not Included):
- New Construction - 8 cents per sq. ft., minimum $100 fee
- Remodel - $50.00 flat fee
- Mobile Home - $85.00
- Accessory Building - $20.00
- Roofing - $25.00
Inspection Fees:
- Contractor Registration - $40.00
- Rebar Inspection - $10.00
- Tie-Down Inspection - $10.00
- Electrical Inspection - $20.00
- Gas Line Inspection - $20.00
- HVAC Inspection - $20.00
- Plumbing Inspection - $20.00
- Electrical Inspection Outside of City Limits of Nowata - $35.00
- Inspection Outside of Normal Business Hours - $30 per hour/ with a minimum of 2 hour charge ($60.00)
Water Services
- New Service Buying/Owner Deposit - $50.00
- New Service Renting Deposit - $100.00
- Transfer/Connect Fee - $30.00
- Disconnect/Reconnect for Non-Payment - $60.00
Taps
- Residential Water Tap - $500.00
- 1st Water Tap - $700.00
- 2nd Water Tap - $2,500.00
- Sewer Tap - $50.00
